I heard Warner Bros. is building a Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai! Can you give me all the details? Where will it be located? When is it expected to open? What kind of things will visitors be able to see and do? Is this a big deal for China?
It’s super exciting – Warner Bros. Discovery is partnering with Jinjiang International to open a Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai! The plan is for it to be ready in 2027.
It’s going to be located in the Jinjiang Action Park, which is a pretty nostalgic place for a lot of people in Shanghai. The park is actually undergoing a huge renovation right now, and this Harry Potter experience will be the centerpiece when it reopens.
Think along the lines of the London and Tokyo tours. We’re talking iconic sets like Diagon Alley, Platform 9 ¾, and maybe even Privet Drive! They’ll probably have butterbeer and all those yummy treats too. The article says the whole experience should take about half a day to go through because it will cover a large area.
This is a big deal for China. Harry Potter is incredibly popular there. They already have Harry Potter-themed places and the Wizarding World at Universal Studios in Beijing. Plus, the movies didn’t face much censorship in China, so the characters are really well-known and loved by everyone. It also comes at a good time for China’s economy, as they’re trying to get more people spending money and visiting the country. It’s a perfect fit!
Warner Bros., in their infinite wisdom (and pursuit of Galleons, I suspect), is building a “Harry Potter Studio Tour” there. Think of it as a permanent Portkey destination for Potterheads.
Mark your calendar for 2027 because that’s when the Jinjiang Action Park gets its magical makeover. Apparently, the old rides weren’t cutting it anymore, so they’re trading teacups for cauldrons.
What can you expect? Well, if they don’t have a fully functional Quidditch pitch, I’m writing a strongly worded letter to Warner Bros. Seriously though, expect the usual suspects: Diagon Alley, Platform 9 ¾ (don’t forget your luggage trolley!), and hopefully a chance to sample some Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans (earwax flavor, anyone?).
And is it a big deal? Huge! Harry Potter is massive in China. They practically invented Butterbeer before we did. Plus, it’s great for their economy. Tourists spend money, and happy tourists spend more money. So, get ready to apparate to Shanghai in a few years!
